What is your typing speed?
Type the passage. Find your words per minute and accuracy.
The timer starts with your first typing key. Pasting is disabled.
How words per minute and accuracy are calculated
Your WPM and accuracy come from comparing exactly what you typed against the passage, character by character.
What this measures
A “word” is five correct characters — the standard convention — so WPM equals correct characters divided by five, per minute. Accuracy compares your current text, character by character including spaces and punctuation, against the passage, so a mistake you fix with Backspace is corrected rather than held against you. Pasting is blocked, so the score reflects typing rather than the clipboard.
How to read your result
- Raw speed with low accuracy is not really fast: errors you would have to go back and fix cost more time than they saved, so watch both numbers together.
- A short passage is a small sample; your rate settles over longer, varied text.
- Your own trend across several runs is far more meaningful than any single result.
How your score compares
Average adult typing speed is widely documented at roughly 40 words per minute, with practiced touch-typists often in the 60–80 range. These are broad references, not targets, and they depend heavily on the keyboard and the text.

Practical tips
- Learn touch typing — home row, all fingers — which beats raw speed drills for lasting gains.
- Prioritise accuracy first; speed follows once the movement becomes automatic.
- Sit so your wrists stay neutral; comfort is what sustains practice.
It measures typing of the provided passages in this browser, not transcription of your own writing or code. The passages are original neutral text, and your results stay on your device. See the full method →
Use a result as a starting point
Typing speed uses five correct characters per word. Accuracy compares the characters you entered with the passage, including punctuation and spaces.
Does this measure hardware latency or polling rate?
No. Browser event delivery is affected by scheduling and input processing. These tools do not certify hardware latency, USB polling rate, DPI accuracy or switch lifespan.
Where do my results go?
The last 30 runs stay in this browser’s local storage. Use the history button to copy a readable report, export JSON or remove them. Raw keyboard and pointer event streams are not sent to a server by this app.
